What is NOH8?

The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska (http://www.bouska.net) and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with “NOH8” painted on one cheek in protest. A Puzzling Disorder: A Discussion About Autism | #PoliticWithPermiss Current Events|

16 May

THURSDAY, MAY 19, 2011

Guest:  Nikki Stokes-Harris

Puzzling Disorder is the first annual fashion show sponsored by HGE, an upstart Baltimore based fashion- company. There will be a meet and greet with the participating designers and photo opportunities with some of the city’s most talented photographers.  The intent of this event is to raise funds for The Forbush Therapeutic Pre-School’s playground fund and promote Autism awareness within Maryland.  As there is no cure for Autism, schools like The Forbush Therapeutic Pre-School at Towson work directly on the frontline for this cause. Currently the school is seeking funds to build a larger playground for the children enrolled in their institution. Preschool students with autism benefit tremendously from daily free play and movement. There is substantial research showing a clear link between play and brain development, improved motor-skills and enhanced social capabilities, which are all priorities of the Forbush Therapeutic Preschool curriculum.  The energy released by daily free play and movement provides students with autism a heightened level of concentration in the classroom and increased learning opportunities.  A playground specially designed for students with autism is a critical and integral part of a student’s daily routine.  It is the direct goal of this charity event to not only raise awareness, but also to directly assist Forbush in reaching that goal. As such, all proceeds from this event will directly benefit The Forbush Therapeutic Pre-School.
Puzzling Disorder will take place Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Randallstown Community Center, 3505 Resource Drive, Randallstown, MD  21133. It will be hosted by Marcellus “Bassman” Shepard, Assistant Program Director @ WEAA. Tickets are also available online @ www.missiontix.com

About Autism:

Autism is one of a group of serious developmental problems called autism spectrum disorders (ASD) that appear in early childhood — usually before age 3. Though symptoms and severity vary, all autism disorders affect a child’s ability to communicate and interact with others. The number of children diagnosed with autism appears to be rising. It’s not clear whether this is due to better detection and reporting of autism, a real increase in the number of cases, or both. For more info and resources on autism, go to  http://www.autismspeaks.org/
